Shipra Roy Saha, from Yogendranagar in Agartala, Tripura, started her
entrepreneurial journey in 2000. She began by training at Agartala SISI (now MSME-
DI) and used her processing skills to create homemade delicacies like pickles, jam,
jelly, marmalade, and chutney. With an initial capital of 300 rupees from her husband
and support from relatives, Shipra sold her products locally. A small loan from Khadi
allowed her to participate in various fairs, although she faced challenges with
packaging and still looking for better opportunities to market her products.
Determined to succeed, Shipra approached Tripura Shilpa Nigam and secured
necessary certifications. Government aided her with finance, training and
opportunities to expand her market. Therefore she sourced machines, labels,
containers, and preservatives from Kolkata. She began supplying shops and stores,
earning recognition and several prizes, including the opportunity to join the World
Fair in Delhi in 2039.
Since 2006, her venture, Jayashree Mahila Udyog, has expanded to include rice
powder and various pulse powders, alongside pickle sauces. Her products, known
under the brand name S.M. Cook and Food, are popular across Tripura.
Shipra’s story highlights the power of determination, continuous learning, and
community support in building a successful business. Despite ongoing challenges, she is open for B2C orders outside Tripura and is seeking distributors
