MapmyIndia Issues Legal Notice to Ola, Accusing Use of Data for Ola Maps Development

Map my India has issued an intellectual property legal notice to Bhavish Aggarwal‘s Ola, accusing the ride-hailing company of using its data to develop Ola Maps as reported by Forbes.

Ola Maps serves as the in-house navigation and location service for Ola. Map My India is owned by CE Info Systems.

The complaint alleges that Ola Maps was developed using Map My India’s data, in breach of the agreement signed with CE Info Systems in 2021.

Ola Maps was introduced in July following Ola’s departure from Microsoft’s Azure and Google Maps. This move came after LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, removed a post by Ola founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, who criticized Google and claimed that switching to Ola Maps eliminated costs, which were previously ₹100 crore with Google Maps.

Ola Electric, which is set to launch a ₹5,500 crore IPO on August 2, had entered into an agreement with Map My India’s parent company for data use in June 2021.
