Kolkata Kettle 2025: A Celebration of Art, Craft, and Community Empowerment

The vibrant city of Kolkata witnessed an enthralling confluence of tradition and innovation at
the much-anticipated Kolkata Kettle exhibition, organized by the Rotary Club of Calcutta
Midtown. Held over two days, January 10 and 11, 2025, at the Erwin Bart Grounds on
Gurusaday Road. The exhibition was a celebration of design and creativity, all in support of a
noble cause—providing vocational training for men and women to create sustainable
livelihood opportunities. Preeti Agarwal, President 2024-25 of the Rotary Club of Calcutta
Midtown, along with Convenor, Samier Prasad, played integral roles in the success of the
event. Their leadership and vision were pivotal in bringing the exhibition to life, ensuring it
was not only a celebration of creativity but also a meaningful philanthropic initiative.
The second day of the exhibition stood out for its engaging fireside chat titled “Laapata
Sarees: Is the concept of the modern saree an identity crisis or a Phoenix rising?” The panel
featured renowned personalities, including celebrity drape artist Dolly Jain and Dr. Rupali
Basu, President-Brand Research and Management, RPSG Group. Moderated by Rashmi
Chowdhary, the discussion delved into the evolution of the saree, exploring its timeless
essence and contemporary resurgence. Panelists highlighted how the saree is finding its place
on the global map as a symbol of elegance and versatility, the wide array of modern sarees
now available, and its increasing acceptance as a powerful choice for corporate dressing.
Adding a touch of glamour to the day’s proceedings was the “All Checked Out” Fashion Walk,
curated by iconic supermodel Nayanika Chatterjee. The ramp came alive as participants,
including esteemed members of FICCI FLO’s Kolkata chapter, sashayed down in their striking
checkered sarees. The walk celebrated individuality and style, culminating in an award
ceremony that recognized the most standout looks. Prizes were awarded to three winners,
and a token of appreciation was presented to all the contestants for their enthusiastic
participation.
Kolkata Kettle not only showcased a myriad of offerings across fashion, jewellery, home
décor, art, craft, and gourmet food but also provided a significant platform to promote
artisans from villages and small-scale artists, highlighting their talent and craftsmanship
alongside meaningful dialogues and creative expressions.
As curtains fell on the event, the resounding success of Kolkata Kettle stood as a testament to
the city’s unwavering support for culture and philanthropy.
