With 40+ doors in East India, Kolkata-based Head Turners Salons, a hair and beauty salon, is bullish about the market and looking at both organic and inorganic growth. The challenge that this segment faces however is the critical manpower situation. Promoter CEO Pankaj Killa elaborates.

The main challenge is to retain the good talent. For two years there was not much attrition, but the last six months have not been easy. There is a lot of attrition happening. There are also instances where “my stylist quits and opens a shop close to me. That is the biggest challenge I am facing. We impart training and really work on them and as soon as they are ready, they leave. We are now trying to reverse this trend with a retention plan.

“As part of my social responsibility, I have trained at least 70-80 people, some who even joined me as cleaners and have today become senior stylists, earning INR45,000-50,000 a month, apart from the incentives and tips they earn”.
