Head Turner’s : Eastern India’s Largest Salon Chain

Think of an established chain of Salons.  Think of Head Turners!

Established by C.A. turned entrepreneur Mr. Pankaj Killa in 2001, this was the first L’Oreal collaborating salon to open in East India. Today, with 40+ salons and over 300 employees the chain has fought through the raging times of the lockdown with a well thought out approach.

Head Turners Salon & Academy is a chain of salons and academies in East India. It is one of the forerunners in bringing the perception of new age salons to modify the aspect of salon business in the country. Since 2001, they have offered hair, skin, bridal and nail services. With a variety in services, they have also had a variety in theme based salons – Industrial Salon, English Look Salon, French architecture inspired Salon, Sports Salon, Nature themed Salon to name a few. They also offer various membership and loyalty programs to their customers. Apart from salons, they also train and groom individuals into professionals through their in-house academies.

Pankaj Killa, founder of Head Turners shares about the brand that since beginning it has been hard yet highly inspiring as customers have had high expectations with the relationship. They worked really hard to deliver the best procedures and value for money to the clients. Their targets are elite people of the society who are very particular about their fashion persona.

To attract more people, they have promotions to knock the young college-going youth to build their customer base. They keep introducing new services with new products. For instance, they have started hosting bridal showers, spa parties and get others within the salon prices. To add more variety, they have also started hair extensions, eyelash extensions and tattoo services

After the pandemic, everyone has ranked hygiene and safety over everything else. With workroom hygiene taking the front seat, all Head Turners salons have taken a step forward with newer work ethos. Following are the changes they have acknowledged:

  • Better hygiene has become the current trend and hopefully it will become a habit in future.
  • Consumer spending habits are changing. Cashless transactions becoming the trend.
  • We have made a lot of technology improvements and our customers are having virtual consultations with our stylists unlike before.
  • Consumers are following proper appointment norms and treating salon services with more respect than before.
  • ‘Social commerce’ trends, where consumers are supplied with professional retail in their homes, will be a new milestone for salons who implement it.
  • The preference of home services to salons is also the new metamorphosis trend.

Mr. Pankaj Killa has also said in the association, “We are seeing a sea change with new walk-in customers being added every day. There is a lot of polarisations where customers are shifting loyalties to salons adhering to new safety norms. On the other hand, sadly many salons have closed due to the pandemic. In the last few years many new salon entrepreneurs were financiers alone, who never understood salon business. This is a tough time for them. Once this pandemic is over, professional salons shall do better business than before and the industry shall consolidate with better professional services.”

Being one of the most powerful brands in the hair & beauty care sector in Kolkata, India. Head Turners has given hairstyling a new horizon, emerging as one of the largest single salon chain. With over 300 employees the company ensures that each one’s skills are sharpened at least once a year. It has evolved over the years with new techniques and styles while constantly updating its stylists with the ever-growing trends in the national and international level. They plan to expand both vertically and horizontally by opening branches in satellite cities of the East and would like to excel in hair styling so that they can provide premium services with new techniques. To put it across in simpler terms, they would like to work the same way as an international salon chain  works in the western countries.

It is managed by young entrepreneurs who look forward to changing the dynamics of salon business through innovation and high service standards. With their enthusiasm to deliver something apart from the league, their motive is to provide immaculate services to the customers and also to make efforts to develop the industry as a whole.
